About TangleSteps
TangleSteps is a small, independent library of tangle patterns you can watch being drawn stroke by stroke, then practise on paper.
Why this site exists
Most tangle tutorials are a single step-out image or a video. Images do not show the order of the strokes, and videos are hard to pause on exactly the right moment. Here each pattern is drawn as an animation you can step through one stage at a time, next to plain step images and a printable practice sheet.
How the drawings are made
Every drawing on this site is our own. Each tangle is described as simple geometry (lines, arcs, circles and the order they are drawn in), and the animation, the step images and the practice sheet are all generated from that same description, so they always match. We do not copy step-outs from books, other websites or Zentangle, Inc.
The patterns themselves are tangles from the Zentangle® Method and its community. Our explanations are a beginner-friendly reading of them, not official instructions. If you want to learn the method properly, a Certified Zentangle Teacher™ is the best place to start.
Using these in a class
Teachers and parents are welcome to print the practice sheets for students. Every pattern page has a print button that fits the steps and four blank 3.5″ tiles on one letter-size page.
Currently 15 patterns. Last updated 2026-10-19.
