How to Draw W2, Step by Step
W2 looks like a woven mat: horizontal and vertical strips that take turns going over and under each other. It is a grid at heart, so it rewards steady spacing.
Step 1 of 3
Draw horizontal strips (pairs of lines), leaving a gap wherever a vertical strip will pass over them.
Watch it draw stroke by stroke, pause on any step, then try it yourself on paper.
W2 step by step
- Step 1
Draw horizontal strips (pairs of lines), leaving a gap wherever a vertical strip will pass over them.
- Step 2
Draw the vertical strips, leaving a gap wherever they pass under a horizontal strip, so the strips alternate over and under.
- Step 3
Fill the small squares between the strips with black.
Tips for a neat W2
- Pencil a light grid first so the crossings line up.
- Work out the over/under order on the first row; every row after that just flips it.
- Keep all strips the same width; uneven strips break the weave illusion.
Variations to try
- Use two lines per strip direction for a tighter cloth texture.
- Leave the squares white and shade the strips where they dip under.
